How many times have you scrolled through your Instagram feed and seen a bikini-clad girl or “fitness model” spinning some shiz about how you should be striving to be THE BEST VERSION OF YOURSELF?

With the new year here soon you are bound to see your social media feeds crammed full of these posts, trying to seduce you into some form of weight loss challenge or detox diet, promising to make you your ‘best self’, and 2019 your best year ever, girl!

On the surface, this seems like a very good goal to have; who doesn’t want to be the best version of themselves?! Sounds like an awesome chick to be!

But what does that actually mean, to be the best version of yourself?

When I think about how to be a better version of myself, three things come to mind:

  1. Make more time for the ones who light up my life: my boyfriend, my friends and my family. They deserve more of my time than they get.

  2. Gain more knowledge: I could be spending more time learning how to be a better coach, and also be more clued in about important issues going on in the world around me.

  3. (This is the most important one)

Express more gratitude for my amazing life and more love for my amazing body, because I can be my own worst critic and I’ll often criticise my body for its failings without recognising all the awesome shit that having this body allows me to do.

What’s missing from this list?

  • Anything to do with having a ‘better version’ of my body.

  • Anything about looking better in a bikini.

  • Anything about firming up my jiggly bits or having better skin or drinking more green smoothies.

Don’t get me wrong, improving your health and fitness is a phenomenal goal - when you are motivated by the right reasons and doing it in a healthy, sustainable way.

My point is simply that you have SO MUCH MORE to offer than how you look and the best version of you, in my opinion, is simply the happiest version of you.

Those three things I listed all lead to one outcome, increasing my own personal fulfilment and happiness through spending more time with loved ones, being better able to help others and expressing gratitude and self love.

So ask yourself, what should you be doing to become the best version of yourself for 2019?
